Alton Masterplan September update

For those of you whom are not aware, on Tuesday September 16th the latest development of the Masterplan are to be presented to the Housing and Regeneration Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

If it assists, the two documents are below, please click on each on to read what they are about.

Key points

For us, there are four points jump out, though there could be more;

1 The first time student housing numbers have been provided, this is 400. With the Whitelands College, that would effectively make it 600 student homes in the ‘Town Centre’. This seeming to be on request from the University of Roehampton.
2 The view of the 20th Century Society has been provided as a preference for refurbishment of the area rather than development. This Society was not mentioned in either the February or July Consultation Reports.
3 The opening of Danebury Avenue has been removed.
4 The opening of Highcliffe Drive, whilst not included at this stage, it is clear that this will be explored with Transport for London.

    On the 14th September we emailed our views on the September Masterplan to the Councillors ( ) reviewing this. This email contained the blog links to Alton Masterplan September update and Roehampton Partnership – what a farce… Surprisingly, there was no reply.
