Alton Youth Club to become a nursery?

Opportunities in Alton East

Interesting, the above photo was taken from the Preferred Options Presentation Board.

So, not long ago the Council stated that “The Alton Youth Club site and surplus land at Bessborough Road and Fontley Way are well suited for high quality single family homes”.

Now there’s a proposal for “Change of use from youth club (Use Class D2) to nursery/day care use (Use Class D1). It is proposed to have 20 members of staff and 65 children enrolled at the nursery”.

The latest stage of the application was registered on 14/09/2015 and it seems that comments are to be received by 05/10/2015.

Safer Neighbourhood Board meeting October 6th

Have your say on how crime is tackled

“The people of Wandsworth are invited to quiz senior police officers and councillors on how they are tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

The Safer Neighbourhood Board (SNB) holds the borough’s police commander and the Community Safety Partnership to account.

It ensures crime reduction targets are being met and influences future community safety policy in the borough. It is also a crucial forum to ensure the borough’s residents can influence how crime is dealt with in their community.

Everyone going to the meeting on October 6 will get a briefing on crime, disorder and general policing issues and will get the chance to take part in a ‘Question Time’-style question and answer session with those responsible for keeping Wandsworth safe”.

The Alton estate featured in a movie….which one?

Many of you may already be of this, though the Alton estate once featured in a movie which was about the future!

Rather than re-iterate what has been mentioned before, please have a read of the following articles for some background.

What movie is being referred to?

This is Fahrenheit 451.

Was anyone famous in it?

Yes, the British actress Julie Christie.

Was your building in the movie?

Well, you’ll need to have a watch of the movie, though in the meantime, there is a website which has pictures from the movie and you can have a look and see whether you recognise any buildings.

Having a quick look at Youtube, the movie seems to have been uploaded a few times, so you can always have a look at it there.

Again, another example of how our neighbours have not keep the “local community” in the loop?

The first being the Hustings when MP candidates were slogging it out and now this?

Neither this event or the Hustings were mentioned at the Roehampton Forum or the Roehampton Partnership………the latter being the main advisory group for Roehampton.
