Putney Labour Party materials on the Alton Estate

When discussing what the various parties offer the Alton Estate, one aspect that pops up is that not everyone is informed about what they are doing other than the infrequent letter distributions on the estate and not everyone appears to receive them. So this might be of interest.

If any are missing, please do let us know.

Roehampton Partnership – 1st December 2015

Roehampton Partnership meeting this Tuesday 1st December

Time: 7pm

Where: Whitelands College (Ruskin Room), University of Roehampton, Holybourne Avenue, Roehampton SW15 4JD.

Have a read of the back page of the draft Minutes, our representatives are “encouraged to attend” this meeting. One would have though, given the supposed importance of this meeting that every effort would be made to “attend”.

Where it mentions “Observers” in the draft Minutes, this means that these are members of the public, so you head down and see what this is all about.

To be added to the mailing list for future Agendas and draft Minutes, reach out to the contact mentioned in the Agenda.

Poor maintenance or just don’t care

ppt.pptx

Well, last night when walking back from Alton West to Alton East I noticed a couple of light bulbs not working. So, tonight popped out for a quick walk around the area and noticed that in small area of the estate that there were nine light bulbs out of action, yes, nine!

Four of these were on one building.

To top it off, I tripped on the footpath, though fortunately I kept my balance. I’ll show you where in the photos that have been produced.

Let’s see how long it is before these are addressed.

  • 19th November – Council emailed regarding all of these items.

Drum roll….the verdict on the listing is……

ppt.pptx

Okay, the anticipated wait is over….the result is in, and Allbrook House and the Library Building are not to be listed as they “are not of sufficient quality for protected status”.

Interestingly, there is an article by the Council on putneysw15 which provides its comments regarding the none listing (though I challenge any reader to locate much in the way of any comments prior to the result other than the poor ‘object of beauty’ or ‘act of sabotage’ question and answer that was recently discussed at the Council).

How long does it take to change a light bulb on the Alton Estate?

ppt.pptx

It was noticed that a light bulb on the side of 2-24 Greatham Walk was not working for some time. So, the Council was notified, and it still is not repaired.

So far, what has happened…….

  • 26th October – sent an email to the Council about the light bulb notifying it that it had not been working for at least two weeks already.
  • 10th November – No reply and the light bulb is still not working. So, sent a follow up email asking about when the light bulb will be changed.
  • 19th November – still no response from the Council and sent another email chaser with a eight other light bulbs out of action.
  • 23rd November – response from Council that replacements have been placed with the electrical contractors
  • 28th November – have emailed the Council when this light (and others) will be repaired
  • 1st December – received an email from the Council stating that electrical contractors are aware of the situation, some of the fittings require complete replacement, the matter is to be expedited.
  • 1st December – having a quick peak at the light on this building it seems it has been repaired.

This is what was required to have ONE light bulb changed through repeated follow ups with the Council.

Is this managing the estate?

So, for those of you that had a guess as to the when the light bulb would be fixed, the closest date selected was 31 November, which appears to the closest, well done!

Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund

pptpptx

Community groups of Roehampton, or rather connected to estates within Roehampton, if you are not aware of the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund then maybe you want to have a read of this.

Who can apply?

“To be eligible, applicant organisations need to be resident-led community groups or charities, operating on a particular housing estate or area of housing. This could be for example, a Tenants and Resident Organisation (TRA), a community group or charity which was established to support residents in a particular area, or a Community Centre. Applications from community groups or charities working across much larger areas and whose long-term work is not focused on a particular estate or area of housing, will not be accepted”.

How much can the grant be?

“Grants of between £2,000 and £20,000 are available to support work where there is clear evidence of benefit to residents living on and around estates or particular areas of housing in London. This includes any of the 33 London boroughs”.

What’s the closing date?

“Monday 23rd November 2015 by 5pm”
