University responds to queries about anti-social behaviour

Given the recent putneysw15 articles concerning the anti-social behavior being caused students, the following questions were put to Roehampton University;

“There have been a number of complaints over the past few years regarding anti-social behaviour from students attending Roehampton University. There have been two recent cases both highlighted within the PutneySW15 Forum article ‘Noisy Roehampton students’ – http://www.putneysw15.com/default.asp?section=community&link=http://appasp.putneysw15.com/server/app/forum/ShowMessage.asp?ID=1176129

From this can the University please provide answers to the following questions –

  1. Does the University maintain records of anti social behaviour as the result of students as notified by residents?
  2. If not, what is the reason for not doing this?
  3. If so, please provide the figures that are maintained for 2016, 2015 and 2014.
  4. What are the best contact details for the University should residents wish to report anti social behaviour, both during office hours and our of office hours?”

Surprisingly, at the moment “The University does not currently maintain a central record of complaints of this nature” however it “will therefore look to implement a central records of complaints so we are able to respond to requests for information more effectively”. Heathmere School Keepers House planning application – make sense?

Thus far this planning application (2016/7179) has three planning objections. You can have a read of them by clicking on this sentence. At this stage, there seems to be a few objections.

  1. The eucalyptus tree seems to have vanished?

Walking past the site today the below pictures were taken and it seems that the tree might have been cut down without it yet being agreed? The pictures have marked a red circle where the eucalyptus tree was?

Page 29 of the Aboricultural Impact Assessment which is site photograph showing a large eucalyptus tree.

209-medium-1 208-medium-1

  1. Where on earth are the cars meant to park?

This planning application has no allowance for car parking. Opposite the site is Pocklington Court which is doubted will allow the cars to park. Also, there is Redwood and Ringwood Gardens, both of these being private, so again, no cars will likely be permitted to park there. That leaves the nearest point of Arnewood  Close as maybe being a candidate for cars being parked there. Walking around the area on Saturday 28th January at 3pm, there was no where to park. No to forget that Heathmere is a school and there is limited parking around it.

  1. Privacy for existing residents?

The buildings will be three levels with balconies facing away from the road, meaning they will face inwards towards existing residential buildings, such as Gosport House and Greatham Walk 26 to 34.

Council answers questions about anti-social non-residential properties

Given the anti-social behavior from non-residential properties which has been occurring, some questions were put to the Council to seek information regarding this activity and these are outlined below.

 “In terms of anti social behaviour caused by non-residential properties such as, for instance, schools that use their premises on a weekend which might be too loud or a University which regularly has residents contacting it with regards to noise caused by its students, can the following questions please be answered;

  1. What is the best manner in which residents can ask the Council to intervene to stop the anti social behaviour from continuing? Note – this question also applies to real time issues occurring which need to be stopped.
  2. What analysis does the Council maintain regarding anti social behaviour? For instance, is it possible to understand how many complaints have been levied versus a particular business?
  3. What is the Council’s process for pursuing anti social behaviour both from a residential and non-residential perspective? For instance, from a residential perspective what are the progressive steps from the lodgement of a first complaint and what are the following steps should the noise progress”.

Car parking fines on the Alton Estate – response from the Council

Many residents have commented on the car parking situation on the Alton Estate and how it is now leading to car parking fines. It has been an effort to try and understand how many car parking fines there have been on the Alton Estate in recent years.

A series of questions were put to the Council and they have now responded.

Have a read and see what you think. What is interesting is which organization is responsible for what in and around the estate.

The questions and answers are located at the ‘How many parking fines have there been on the Alton Estate?’ (Source: whatdotheyknow ).

London Wall cattle trough

To highlight another example of a cattle trough which perhaps could have qualified for being removed by the Drinking Fountain Association rather than the Norstead Place cattle trough, perhaps this trough at London Wall could have been snaffled up. There does not appear to be any ‘potable water’ at this trough?

Have you seen these and do you know what they are

On the Alton East there are a couple of posts which many people believe are old disused lamp posts. Well, they may not be, it has been suggested that they are sewer vents.

Councillor Carpenter speaks about shared council resources

A Putney Society event which has one our ward Councillors speaking about shared council resources. Shame this was not mentioned at the most recent Roehampton Forum meeting. Can anyone recall our Councillors promoting this in the Roehampton & Putney Heath ward?

“Merger of Richmond and Wandsworth Councils – Members Meeting 23rd January

Event Date: Jan 23, 2017

Members Meeting: Merger of Richmond & Wandsworth Councils, Monday 23rd January in the Community Church, Werter Road, SW15 2LL

What are the implications of the merger?  How will it affect us on a daily basis?

The merger is called a “Staff Sharing Arrangement”.   Under extreme financial pressues it was decdied that it would be economical to share some services between the two councils.  Skewed towards the senior staff in both organisations, the expected savings are around 20%.  Currently procurement, property and systens are shared services.  How will this work?  Will the difference in Council Tax affect the merger?   Wandsworth has one of the lowest  in the country (Band D £674.22 vs Richmond’s £1582.39).

We hope all our concerns will be allayed and your questions answered on 23rd January.

Free to members and a £3 donation from non-members is appreciated.”
