Parking on grass – an Alton East problem?

Background

Have you noticed how many cars park on the grass on the Alton East? Or driving on the grass? It’s possibly because with all of these buildings being built that car parking pressures over time have built up leaving car owners little option?

The following are examples of areas in the Alton East.

Somborne House

Fontley Way area is already under some pressure with car parking. This photo is located at – https://www.google.com/maps/place/51%C2%B026’51.3%22N+0%C2%B014’35.8%22W/@51.4475833,-0.244512,313m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d51.447591!4d-0.243285

Crondall House

Also in the Fontley Way area though the pressures built up have cars parked on the grass where the entrance to the proposed new maisonettes will have access. This photo is located at – https://www.google.com/maps/place/51%C2%B026’50.3%22N+0%C2%B014’38.9%22W/@51.447304,-0.2453728,314m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m15!1m8!3m7!1s0x0:0x0!2zNTHCsDI2JzUxLjMiTiAwwrAxNCczNS44Ilc!3b1!7e2!8m2!3d51.447591!4d-0.243285!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d51.4473039!4d-0.2441334

Farnborough House

This too is in Fontley Way and until recently had many cars parked on the grass until the railings were recently installed – https://roeregeneration.wordpress.com/2019/03/21/2878/ . This photo is located at and is after the railings were installed – https://www.google.com/maps/place/51%C2%B026’49.0%22N+0%C2%B014’35.1%22W/@51.446956,-0.2438084,187m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d51.4469555!4d-0.2430712

Fontley Way 1-20

At one of the two entrances to Fontley Way, this area is used for car parking. This photo is located at – https://www.google.com/maps/place/51%C2%B026’47.0%22N+0%C2%B014’35.5%22W/@51.446394,-0.2437412,139m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d51.4463939!4d-0.2431939

Ibsley Gardens 57-79

At the back of Ibsley Gardens and also leading to Fontley Way 1-20 entrance this road is car parked on one side with cars and large vehicles using the grass as an extension of the road. This photo is located at – https://www.google.com/maps/place/51%C2%B026’46.5%22N+0%C2%B014’32.9%22W/@51.446247,-0.2430263,139m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d51.4462471!4d-0.2424761

Ibsley Gardens 2-52

At the bend leading towards the other Fontley Way entrance this grassed area is also used as an extension of the road. This photo is located at – https://www.google.com/maps/place/51%C2%B026’49.2%22N+0%C2%B014’29.9%22W/@51.447008,-0.2424106,195m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d51.4470076!4d-0.2416399

Holybourne Avenue

In front of Whitelands College this Avenue is split into four footpaths due to the intersection at Bordon Walk. Three of the four have pavements next to the Avenue and one does not. This area is frequently driven on having mud stretched across the Avenue and tyre marks in the grass, all this in the Alton Conversation area. This photo is located at – https://www.google.com/maps/place/51%C2%B026’55.7%22N+0%C2%B014’28.6%22W/@51.448795,-0.2420333,194m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d51.4487949!4d-0.241266

Quiz the Councillor candidates this week (18 April 2018)

The Putney Society is putting on the Hustings for local Council Elections. Roehampton & Putney Heath ward Hustings is this week;

“with candidates for the Roehampton and West Putney wards, will be held at 19:30 on Wednesday April 18th, 2018 in St Joseph Catholic Church, 215 Roehampton Lane, Roehampton SW15 4LD”.

The candidate’s details have been released and can be found by clicking on this sentence. Note that there seem to be a few local candidates.

This is an opportunity to ask some questions of the candidates such as their views on the regeneration, retro-fitting of water sprinklers, and to test their knowledge of local issues.

You may note that one of the three existing Roehampton & Putney Heath ward Councillors, Councillor Peter Carpenter, is not running for this ward, though is now running in West Hill. The timing of this could be its own question given that the building phase of the regeneration has started its way through the planning application process, this being the Bessborough Road/Petersfield Rise application (2017/6977) with more applications to come.

A local name that many will be familiar with is Reverend Jim McKinney who is running in West Putney.

Homelife (February 2018)

Have you read the latest issue of the Homelife magazine (Issue 78, February 2018)?

Well, there are a few items which may be of interest………..

Cladding update (page 12)

The top of the page refers to a cladding update for Sudbury House, though absolutely no mention of an update for retro-fitting of water sprinklers! Nothing? No mention at all regarding the now involvement of the First Tier Property Tribunal. It has to be wandered why. It was heard that on Saturday 4 March 2018 that residents of Kimpton House were collecting signatures for a petition against having retro-fitting water sprinklers and many people were (1) not aware of the potential cost of the installation of water sprinklers or (2) the water sprinklers were to be installed inside the flats.

Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour (page 13)

A useful page which lists contact details of the various departments for various issues.

Estate Improvements

A good example of what can be done through the Small Improvement Budget (SIB).

No mention of…………..

Strange, that there seems to be no mention of the Alton Estate regeneration and there has been a lot happening;
