The letter with the email

Please see below the letter which was provided with the email. Note that ‘Hersham House’ should have been ‘Hersham Close’.

Roehampton Partnership change of date (18 June 2019)

Background

Not much to add to the below email other than please note the change of date and maybe this might have something to do with the pending planning application. This might be one Roehampton Partnership not to be missed?

Roehampton University signage, another retrospective planning application?

Background

Some of you may remember the (in)famous portacabins by Paskstead House which was challenged by many local residents as well as Residents’ Associations (RAs). Planning applications 2015/5648, 2016/1385 and 2016/5912 refer to this and is briefly covered by the following article – https://roeregeneration.wordpress.com/2017/12/28/what-became-of-the-portacabin-planning-application/ . Though if you enter these planning applications or ‘portacabins’ into the serach engine they will be quite a few articles on this.

However, in March 2018 this blog site had an article regarding some signage by Whitelands College asking if it had planning permission – https://roeregeneration.wordpress.com/2018/03/09/roehampton-university-do-you-need-planning-permission-for-this/ .

It turns out that Roehampton University did not have planning permission for not only this signage but for 12 such signs within the ward. As such the University submitted planning application 2018/2773 – https://planning1.wandsworth.gov.uk/Northgate/PlanningExplorer/Generic/StdDetails.aspx?PT=Planning%20Applications%20On-Line&TYPE=PL/PlanningPK.xml&PARAM0=936032&XSLT=/Northgate/PlanningExplorer/SiteFiles/Skins/Wandsworth/xslt/PL/PLDetails.xslt&FT=Planning%20Application%20Details&PUBLIC=Y&XMLSIDE=/Northgate/PlanningExplorer/SiteFiles/Skins/Wandsworth/Menus/PL.xml&DAURI=PLANNING .

Which signs were these?

They are highlighted below.

A bit cheeky?

It seems that  someone responsible for the planning application used the photos provided by the resident which highlighted the lack of a planning application? The photos in the planning application were as follows and it can be seen they very similar to the ones above? – https://planning.wandsworth.gov.uk/WAM/doc/Drawing-5033717.pdf?extension=.pdf&id=5033717&location=VOLUME9&contentType=application/pdf&pageCount=1

Sherwood Lodge – good bye tree :(

Background

The works have started at Sherwood Lodge, SW15 4AD, as part of the Bessborough Road/Petersfield Rise planning application (2017/6977). Sadly, a tree (which many people have mentioned in disbelief) has been removed.

Before photo

The below photo was taken on 2nd December 2018 and the tree is circled in yellow.

After photo

The below photo was taken on 26th March 2019 and the tree stump is circled in yellow.

Wandsworth (Conservation Area) Advisory Committee (12 March 2019)

Background

At the upcoming Wandsworth (Conservation Area) Advisory Committee (WACC) on 12th March 2019 there are a few Roehampton & Putney Heath ward entries – https://democracy.wandsworth.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=493&MId=6071

Item 3 – Minutes 8th January 20019

Refer to – https://democracy.wandsworth.gov.uk/documents/s64834/Minutes%20-%208th%20January%202019.pdf

(vi) Mount Clare Campus, Minstead Gardens (2018/4390)

The Principal Conservation and Urban Design Officer provided an update in relation to the cedar tree on the site that was discussed at the last meeting. He noted that he had contacted the University’s Director of Estates in 2015 about the decaying tree and that he could not find any evidence of a response. He explained that the tree was protected by a Tree Preservation Order but that it was now just a tree stump. The Principal Conservation and Urban Design Officer informed the Committee that he would discuss the replacement of the tree with the University. It was confirmed that the Principal Conservation and Urban Design Officer would contact Gilly King and/or the Director of Estates to discuss the tree replacement.

(ii) Alton Estate Regeneration

John Horrocks, Putney Society, noted that the Alton Estate regeneration planning application was scheduled to be submitted at the end of January 2019. He stated that this would be located within the largest conservation area in Wandsworth and hoped that it would be considered by the Committee at the meeting in March 2019. The Principal Conservation and Urban Design Officer noted that there had been four Design and Review Panels in relation to this application and that the details would be published online.

Mount Clare planning application for MASSIVE bin storage

Notice this planning application on the Alton West?

Hopefully readers you noticed that in Weekly Council Planning applications decisions (22 September 2018) you noticed planning application 2018/4390 which is for ‘the erection of refuse storage for Mount Clare’ this being a Mount Clare is a Grade I listed building?

Link to blog article – https://roeregeneration.wordpress.com/2018/09/29/weekly-council-planning-applications-decisions-22-september-2018/

Where in the Alton West?

By Mount Clare with neighbouring Minstead Gardens Sheltered Housing properties nearby.

Link to map showing where this is proposed – https://planning.wandsworth.gov.uk/WAM/doc/Drawing-5077198.pdf?extension=.pdf&id=5077198&location=VOLUME9&contentType=application/pdf&pageCount=1

Maybe a better view is Appendix One in the Heritage Statement – https://planning.wandsworth.gov.uk/WAM/doc/Report-5082478.pdf?extension=.pdf&id=5082478&location=VOLUME9&contentType=application/pdf&pageCount=1

How large is this going to be?

It seems that this is going to very large. From the digram it seems to be at least 1.8m tall, 5.5m wide and 13.6m long. All measurements provided on a best efforts basis and readers should make their own effort to review.

Link to diagram – https://planning.wandsworth.gov.uk/WAM/doc/Drawing-5077200.pdf?extension=.pdf&id=5077200&location=VOLUME9&contentType=application/pdf&pageCount=1

If it helps visualise this, the following link provides some photos of the area in question (26 Minstead Gardens might receive some overshadowing?) – https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.244558229737128&type=1&l=439f8bc4c6

Who are the Consultees?

It seems it’s the Conservation & Urban Design, The Twentieth Century Society, Housing,

Historic England, and The Georgian Group. Though no mention of Manresa and Minstead Sheltered Housing Residents’ Association?

Imagine not consulted with the Residents Association and this monolith being built next to you? Especially when numbers 2-26 are Grade II listed buildings

 Seriously?

In the Heritage Statement it states the following ‘6.2 -This report finds that the proposals are of high quality design, which is sensitive to the historic context of the site. The application proposal would overall sustain the special interest of the listed building, surrounding conservation area and nearby listed building groups’.  This brick of building qualifies as such?
